In “The Mists of Avalon”, Marion Zimmer Bradley portrays the importance that women held within a patriarchal society in her own reinterpretation of Thomas Malory’s “Le Morte D’Arthur”. The topic I would like to research is the role that women had within Bradley’s text and how even in a patriarchal society, the women in Avalon held a form of “ultimate power”. I would like to highlight how Bradley’s feminist take on Arthurian legend portrays the contemporary role that women hold and how it relates to her text as whole.
A topic that I feel like needs to be further investigated is how the power that media has in shaping not only an individual but also a race/ culture
I would like to research on the topic of immigrating and the goverment polices effect for immigrates.
I think I may be interested in writing about cultural expectations. I found this topic interesting because I feel like even though we may not strictly follow cultural expectations, every parent carries some sort of cultural expectation that they want to carry on to their children. Some individuals may or may not have to follow some sort of standards set to them, but this all can be possible preventing them from showing who they are as individuals.
I’m still a bit unsure about what I want to write about but one idea is “white-washedness” and its effects on cultures and the people. Another idea is one’s connection to their culture and how their connection impacts a person.
I think writing about this topic would be very educational. Some people do not about it so I think it is an interesting topic.
A topic that I am considering is how English language became so dominant in US education and the positive/negative impacts (mostly negative) related to it. We live in such a diverse nation and world, why does one language seem to be superior over the others in academics? Shouldn’t we be encouraging our diversities and be more open to broadening the spectrum of languages that is related to education? I think this topic may have more negative effects so I’ll be focusing on those but we’ll see.
I found interest in talking about alcoholism in adolescence and drugs in musician life. How can alcoholism affect adolescents? Or “how/why can drugs take place in a musician’s life or why musicians use drugs to become successful? What might be the reason for them to become addicted to drugs? I am not really sure about my topic because my topic is not related to any language literacy. Because I want to write about freewriting like the topic I want to talk about in this class for this research assignment. So, I am concerned about my topic.
This is a viable topic to delve into, and you’ve declared your interest in the topic which shows that you’d actually be interested in pursuing it. There are most likely several sources on the issue that will help bolster your researched essay.
The topic I plan on researching is war in the Middle East. I am intrigued by this because I read a book called A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and it showed war-torn Afghanistan and how someone’s life can change within a minute. War is a reality for many people because of foreign invasion and civil war happening in the country.
This is a topic I don’t know too much about, however I feel like there will be many resources available to you regarding this topic. It’s a topic I also would like to learn about.
I am thinking of writing my research paper on the effect that the Presidential election has had on Americans such as how it has changed their perspective on our government. Another topic I was gravitating towards is the effect Corona Virus has had on the mental health of everyone that has been affected by it. I have seen posts and articles regarding both topics.
I think it will be an interesting topic to talk about. I saw some of the news about the presidential election and I read articles and news about the effects of the corona virus. Yeah, those are the two topics that are going right now.
A topic i will most likely choose is the Spanish language. for me, it interests me how there are countries that speak spanish in south america, but there is also one in Europe, so i want to know how the spread of the language happened
I think the spread of Spanish is due to imperialism or colonialism by the Spaniards. They wouldn’t occupy their neighboring, white European countries, of course.
The topic itself feels a bit too broad and I feel as though you could be more specific. It may become difficult to tailor your sources to the essay, as you may be overwhelmed with the multitude of resources that may be available.
Does speaking with accent affect the way people are treated? There has been increasing evidence that people with accent indeed are discriminated.
This is a great topic, and I am interested to see how different accents are discriminated.
There are articles online where I found that people were being disregarded because of it, you can certainly look them up too.
I am doing something similar! I think the idea of “Does speaking with accent affect the way people are treated?” may be a little too broad, but it can easily be focused, specified and refined.
It will be a good topic to talk about because we see that people are with an accent are being discriminated against for the way they speak. It will be nice to how people are being discriminated against for their accent.
I am thinking about writing about culture appropriation because there are huge misconceptions throughout social media and in society. People don’t realize they do it sometimes. I want to know what causes individuals to appropriate cultures and why they do it.
hey, i thinking writing about cultural appropriation is a really cool idea. I know a lot of people mix up appropriation with appreciation so learning about the difference between them and the meaning of each would be really interesting especially at a time like this.
This is very interesting. I think you should also add that sometimes people are trying to appreciate the culture and they end up horribly appropriating it.
I think writing about this topic would be very informative and educational. People do this and do not realize the impact of their action.
A topic/issue related to our class that I feel needs to be further investigated and shared is how the hierarchy of language stands within our society today, because as it comes to be, people of various different cultures face the same hardships with language restrictions that they have within America (i.e. Amy Tan and Safwat Saleem’s stories) With this, there might be a possibility that the general public may hold a certain culture/language as superior to others.
I would like to do a research topic on climate change. We know that our everyday choices can effect how the climate behaves. For example, we see the fires in California and the constant raise in global temperature. I would like to explore further on this and provide a detailed essay.
climate change is something that people know of but don’t always address. i think this essay topic would definitely inform people of the severe consequences climate change can have.
There is a great national geographic documentary called “Before the Flood” that shows many scientists and politicians discussing climate change. The documentary is available in Disney plus and it has Leonardo DiCaprio.
I am thinking of writing about maybe something related to language discrimination, specifically how language discrimination can affect the work environment and the chances of the workers to get a job. I have done a rhetorical analysis on Amy Tan’s “Mother Tongue” which speaks of the personal experiences of an individual who was greatly affected by language discrimination, so it seems natural to do this topic as a continuation of that.
I think you have a great topic here, because Tan’s essay is a great example of language discrimination and you can greatly expand that in your research essay.
I’m stuck between writing about marine deterioration and serial killers. But some things I would include in my marine deterioration essay: pollution, overfishing, trash in oceans, sewage, oil spills, chemicals released in the ocean, noise pollution, coral bleaching, whats happening in the Great Barrier Reef, how does all of this ultimately affect marine life and the purity/existence of the ocean
whether linguistic discrimination constitutes violence,
I was thinking about considering the impact of the native language on the development of language and language development in children.
Definitely an interesting idea, it can bring light as to just how languages come to be spoken, both the formal and informal method of speaking them, and how dialects even emerge from a language.
This is as interested topic to write about. I think that native language and language in general plays a huge role in an individuals daily life.
I am interested researching the history of Yiddish, the development of it as a language, and the current state of the language today.
This is an interesting topic since it has to do with language and the aspects of how a language came to be. A few months ago,i saw a Netflix show that was based on a real story called “Unorthodox”, where they spoke Yiddish and it gives insight of how Orthodox Jews live, and I feel like this could give you some insight.
I think this is a great topic to explore only because for some people like myself, I have no knowledge of the history of Yiddish but I wanna learn how this language has adapted or changed over time due to social influence. It would be interesting to interconnect and explore these two topics together.
The topic related to our class that I fell needs to be further investigated and shared is the cost of the globalization of English. Because in the current day, most of the country are having English courses as their required subject and a lots of companies in countries that do not have English as their national language they required the employees to speak, read and understanding English that in countries that do not have English as their national language, and I was wondering how this started and what is behind of these things.
English has so many speakers, and many countries emphasize the importance of it. It would be interesting to see the implications of English being spoken globally and what that means to native cultures and languages.
I am thinking about writing about the stereotypes associated with Asians. Thought some stereotypes about academics might not seem as negative as other stereotypes, I want to explore how these stereotypes affect Asian students, their parents and how it pushes the idea that student’s are responsible for their failure in the school system.
i definitely agree this is a topic that needs to be further explored. as being part asian myself, i do experience stereotypes. and some may seem harmless, such as “asians are smart” but others can be offensive, like making fun of the language my ancestors spoke.
I think this topic can educate individuals about Asian culture as well and how they can respect it! However, Asia is a big country. Which part of Asia will you be you focusing on?
I think I would like to research on the topic of social media and politics and the effects it has on the society or certain groups of people.
hey, i think writing about social media is a great idea, social media is apart of just about everyone in the world lives so seeing the effects on it would be really interesting.
I am thinking about writing about criminals. My topic question would be are serial killers born killers or made. I’ve seen a lot of movies and documentaries about serial killers so i’m curious to find out more about them.
i was going to post my paragraph on writing an essay about serial killers but. thought i’d seem odd! but i definitely think this something that interests a lot of people and can be informative as well.
I think this is a great topic to explore because it’s so cool to examine how the “normal” mind differs from serial killers but at the same time, it also leads to the question, aren’t we all psychotic but to a certain extent and of course, this can change depending on out environment.
There is popular Netflix tv show called “Mindhunter” which is based on true story and this show contains many true stories of different serial killers in the past and investigations on the serial killers.
